Eligibility For Active Membership In NYSOWA
Any New York residents* meeting NYSOWA's minimum professional
criteria who receive compensation for the preparation and
publication, by means of newspapers, magazines, lectures,
photography, books, radio, television, editing, or other accepted
media formats, may become a member of the association. Acceptance
for Active and Associate membership
shall be predicated upon an applicant's conformity with the stated
minimum criteria during the 12-month period that precedes the date
of submission of an application.
Active membership is based on full compliance with
the following categories or, if requested, a combination thereof.
The membership screening committee will review an applicant's proof
of activity(s) to ensure consistency with the minimum continuous
one-year requirement. To be eligible for Associate
Membership, candidates must meet 50% of the Active
requirements. Final judgments and recommendations will be determined
by the Screening Committee.
Newspaper Writer
12 published articles per year
Magazine Writer
2 published articles per year National distribution
4 published articles per year Regional distribution
Lecturer
6 paid presentations per year
Photographer/Illustrator/Artist
8 published stills and/or prints or separate sales per year
1 film/video (20 minute sound) or equivalent per year
Book Author
1 published book per 3 years
Radio or TV Broadcaster
4 thirty-minute shows per year
8 shows under 15 minutes per year or equivalent
Magazine/Newspaper Editor
4 publications per year
Public Relations
Must be a full time occupation or, be supplemented with a full time
occupation in the arena of hunting, fishing, environmental
conservation, or allied subjects, and publish 6 News Releases on
outdoor topics per year.
Electronic Publishing
Minimum 8 published out door columns or articles in the preceding 12
month period and in no less than 4 separate editions of electronic
publication(s). For the purpose of combining categories for
membership application, each original column or article shall count
as 2 points. Regarding Web sites: the applicant must be paid by the
Web master and/or electronic publications, an offer proof of payment
for each item submitted for consideration requiring application for
membership.
Candidates seeking membership must submit a competed application
form including the prescribed documentation for proof of activity
and the requisite Membership Application Fee made payable to NYSOWA.
Prospective members must also be elected to membership by majority
vote of the Screening Committee.
*Persons not residing in New York State, who otherwise qualify
for membership, may become members and shall be entitled to all the
privileges of resident members including the right to vote.
Non-resident members are not eligible to hold elected office.
